State Exams for Dutch as second language

De Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO), or Ministerie van Onderwijs, Culteer en Wetenschap is responsible to test students for the state language exams.

Dulanco has 100% first time pass rate  for state exams (NT2) to this day at this time.

For those who want an official certificate that states their competency level or for those who need to pass this exam in order to apply for their permanent residency. We offer course to pass this national language exam for Dutch as a second language.

The exams exists of the following segments:


listening to conversation or dialogues and answering questions about the contents, in multiple-choice.


several exercises in which you prove to know the grammar, use your creativity and potentially writing easy letter, or something similar.


reading of manuals or background information, articles with multiple-choice questions.


giving verbal responses in daily life situations varying from a neighbour whom you can help with his broken car or, “when would you rather work at day or at night shift”? and “please explain advantages and disadvantages of both”.

If you start from scratch, you will need at least 60 hours of lessons to achieve Netherlands state exam competency. Usually it takes about one year of studying.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR) defines six common reference levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2), using “can do” descriptors to define the learner/user’s proficiency at each level.

The other possibility to obtain the permanent residency is through the Inburgering (citizenship course).
